The Choice for White Plains

September 16, 2009

On the steps of City Hall:

Thank you all for coming here today

I want to assure all of you, because I know there's been some confusion being cast about out there, that, as of today, I am definitely on the ballot for Mayor of the City of White Plains this November 3rd.. I will absolutely be on the ballot and together we will win in November.

I also asked you here today because I feel compelled and obliged to answer some baseless, reckless and irresponsible comments made about me, my wife and my attorney by the Democratic Board of Elections Commissioner Reginald Lafayette.   As reported on the website
www.wpcnr.com, Mr. Lafayette first accuses us all of lying, and then outrageously claims that my comments and actions contain "racial undertones."

How absurd.  How low will they stoop to try to prevent my Candidacy?

How unfortunate to drag race into a matter which has nothing to do with race. They're had their day in Court... and we were victorious.  Just as we will be victorious this November.  I would demand an apology, but I know better.

What are they afraid of? What is it about my being on the ballot that frightens Mr. Bradley and his Democratic cronies?  Why are they so afraid of a real campaign, not one decided in the backrooms and caucuses of the Democratic City and County committees? And what kind of deals did they make with all the other parties to ensure that Mr. Bradley was endorsed? We already know the Republican Committee Chairman received a job at the Board of Elections weeks after that Party cross-endorsed Mr. Bradley. What other deals did they make? What is the cost to ensure Mr. Bradley's coronation?

Well, I've got news for them. This isn't a coronation. This is an election, and the people will decide who will be the next Mayor of the City of White Plains not some backroom politicians.

My opponent wants to be Mayor to consolidate his power. I want to be the next Mayor to serve you, the citizens and the working families of this great city.

We've already seen how wonderful one-party government has worked on the County level - with mismanagement, the waste and abuse of taxpayers' money, and yes, even corruption.  Well here in White Plains, we've got to rise together as one to say enoughWe don't want to live under your thumb any longer!

I've watched over the past couple of years as my opponent has painstakingly worked with his gang of five Democratic colleagues on the Common Council to imperil the City's finances.  I will be addressing their tactics all during this campaign. For two years, my opponent has failed to produce an extra quarter percent sales tax that would have provided, by now, more than $12 million in revenue which could have been used to pay our workers fairly and off-set the burden on our property tax payers.  Believe me, that is only the tip of the iceberg.

And he is running on a platform of fiscal responsbility? The Mayor and I voted against the last budget that he orchestrated with his Democratic cronies with its cuts in services, like the leaf pickups, layoffs, and cuts to quality of life issues that affect our property values and us all.

This Government is out of control.  They've become bullies and thugs.  They're threatening now to appeal the Court decision.  Let them, because you know what? Bullies and thugs are afraid of a real and fair fight. I will guarantee this...no matter what, they are going to get a real fight, one way or another this November.

But my friends, I need your help.  I need your support.  I ask you all to talk to each other, talk to your neighbors, your families and together we can beat back these bullies and put White Plains back on the right track.  The track we were on before my opponent decided to meddle in the City's business.

I thank you all and look forward to the fight ahead with confidence and courage because of you all.
